Us
This year at NCJW’s
national convention, the Utah Section of National Council of Jewish
Women was awarded a prize for membership growth among small sections.
By
promoting Jewish values, the Utah Section of NCJW fosters personal
growth and develops community leadership to make a real difference
in the lives of women, children and families in our local, national
and global communities.
Throughout
the past year, we have celebrated the talents and philanthropic
work of our community’s Jewish female artists, served Utah’s
elderly, refugee, and low-income families with home delivery of
holiday baskets and meals, provided entertainment to women and children
in protective shelters, partnered with Utahns for Public Schools
to defeat a school voucher measure, worked to promote progressive
legislation on a statewide level, and organized senior holiday events
.
Social
events have included a ski day, movie club, sponsorship of a Jewish
film festival and an evening with Tania Katan, a comedienne and
breast cancer survivor. Our fundraiser was a concert of classical
music. We will participate with other area Jewish organizations
in celebrating Israel’s 60th birthday in May.
We
will be working with the national office on campaigns to end domestic
violence, protect reproductive choice, and promote and protect the
vote. NCJW also works to improve the lives of women, children and
immigrants in Israel. NCJW sponsors the first women and gender studies
program in the Middle East conducts education research and provides
grants through its Yad b’Yad and Women to Women programs.
